I don't know how it works for other types though... particularly 3, 6, and 9 which are just different. Absolutely we show elements of all three but we might say one is EMPHASIZED. For me, SEXUAL-SELF PRESERVATION-SOCIAL. Makes a real impact on what we are ultimately after. : something about it's still twitching the needle on my baloney detector. : where does competence fit in with these three things? : it's odd how easily my self-preservation stuff mixes with my masochism stuff. probably cause it's not self-destruction i'm after at all, but just that i find pleasure in certain kinds of pain. i got my two tattoos in two of the most painful places, not to be tough and show off how well i can take pain, just cause it's the perfect pain; to be tough you endure something bad, i indulged in something enjoyable. if i'm gonna be shelling out a few hundred dollars on a piece of body art, i may as well make it an intense experience. didn't ignore it at ALL. focused on it as much as possible. it would seem to me that's more the sexual variant speaking, while ignoring discomfort (or avoiding it altogether) would be self-preservationist? i do that with pains i don't like, like itching or headaches, or being too hot or cold, just turn off the sensitivity to it. : secrets and confidences... god, i am SO all about that. i like it that very few people know my ties to darkness. today, after waiting ~for~rev~ver~ for a break in traffic to take a left, i held up the sign of the devil, and said, "i call apon the dark power of lucifer to part the endless sea of traffic!" suddenly, no cars. for about 5 seconds. but then again, that's just totally a social game i play. i'ts strategically entertaining, but i also play those games when no one's around. but the people in the car were pretty impressed. : : ok, when i say "malarky" i guess i should be more specific. i AM a 54. certainly and without doubt. i may have, at some point in my life, been a social or sexual or sp variant, adn not be that any more. so, it would seem that the variants are not discrete categories, but descriptions of an aspect of your personality that may have more or less prominence at different times. the mbti works something like this. and similarly, it can be used to tell what "area" of one's type they're currently in. sorta like health, but less one-dimensional. however, by the way you guys are throwing around the terms, it sounds like discrete behavior-based categories, which doens't work. : : : >>> had I been a boy my name would have been John... so no parallel there : yeah, right. if you'd been a boy, ya know you probably have wound up with a funny name fulla vowels; ariok or some shit. my parents had decided on nathan before i was born, and changed their minds once they saw me. i think they had a little chat with some men in black and looked at the little red light. i'm tellin ya, it's a conspiracy :) : : isaac
