I understand your sense of derision toward those who were too "weak" to perform a simple dissection, as I have often felt that way when I have seen others shy away from some unpleasant or difficult task that needed doing. No derision of those people whatsoever. I don't levy moral judgment on them either. : However, I don't think that detachment has anything to do with choosing to kill a roommate's pet. And I don't think that insensitivity and detachment are the same thing. And "natural" to me has nothing to do with "right" or "just" - morals and judgment and intellection and rights and restrain and equality are not "natural", but are rather the result of the evolution of consciousness. The main point was to separate judgment made on an ACTION from judgment made on CHARACTER or on the PERSON. The same character qualities can result in both positive and negative actions. There is 'right' outside what is natural. All morality is rooted in biological imperatives. : I believe that people vary in the degree to which they are evolved intellectually, morally, and emotionally. And, while I may pity (or feel repelled by) those who are sociopathic or manifest a total disregard for the welfare or interest of others, I am under no obligation to seek their company.
