: First let me say that I am deliberately leaving out most of the emotional content of my experiences regarding 9-11 and since purposefully. I certainly had and continue to have an emotional reaction, but, utilizing the detachment Elizabeth mentioned, I am interested in investigating the matter as an intellectual exercise. Sort of like a war-game scenario.

: I have followed the events since 9-11 with great interest. Prior to that, I suspect that like most Americans the topic of social unrest in the Middle East was not uppermost in my mind.

: Since then I have given the matter a great deal of thought from various angles...what are the terrorists' motives? What is the appropriate response from the US? What are the pressures in the Mid-East that are leading to the surge of violent Islamic fundamentalism?
----Many of these countries in the Middle East are very sexually repressive, especially the Taliban-controlled areas of Afghanistan. If we could only get these guys laid, then they might leave us alone.-Jim
