: if someone was manic-depressive, and a danger to themselves, let's say, if they didn't take their lithium, or worse, dangerously psychotic and a homocidal maniac if they don't tke their drugs, then you'd be relieved when they took their meds, right? why should it be any different with less severe psychological maladies like crankiness? or even boredom? if the drug makes things better, then it's a good thing.

Well, I just think that ideally I would like him to be able to achieve that more calm and peaceful state without using drugs. Really, I would wish that for anyone I knew who was taking a drug to treat an illness, whether it was medical or psychological. I mean every drug has its negative side effects. But, I realize that is not always possible in the real world and I do consider his usage of pot akin to his being on an anti-depressant like prozac. So, for now I realize he "needs" to smoke, but still I wish he didn't have to. (I mean smoking on a regular basis, not just getting high occasionally.)
