Next time you're stuck in traffic, do like in that REM video: just get out of your car and walk along singing. Although I suppose where Stipe's 4-ish interpretation was of everyone "hurting" and being sad (the universality of pain), you'll be singing a song about how stupid and dislikeable everyone is (the universality of your anger toward the rest of the world)?
