i'm not talking about the likelihood of being fired due to fucking up. i'm talking about the company going under. most programmers have to do per-project work and don't have stable jobs. at least that's how it is in the us. they're at the mercy of the market, and there's ALWAYS a market for competent doctors. not the same for competent programmers.
all that aside, i think it's outrageous that doctors are expected to GIVE anything, and if i were a doctor, i'd probably be offended that you seem to expect them to. they should be paid huge sums of money for their work, and get loads of respect and admiration from society. oh, wait.... they do.
