: Dave, : Good poitns that I agree with--howevr both Captains and Ryker each have 8 wings. As it is, many times wings develop as a result of the base type. Kirk was inspired by a serious8--Horatio Hornblower--but Shatner is a 3 and wanted to play KIrk more as a 3 and so the subsequesnt character.Picard is a perfectionist driven to change things and that culminates in him developing a huge 8 strweak with which he can channel his 1 energy. He desn't have an 8 wing becasue he's a captain, he's a captain becasue hea has an 8 wing. Finally, Ryker is primarily driven by a need to succeed which created the 8 wing--the best way he could accomplish what his base 3 wanted to accomplish. : Maverick : : : Most Starship captains appear 8-like because their position of captain requires 8 type drive.
