"Dare I write it..."? As in, I usually don't? Ok, I'm insulted, but forget that.

Is there any research done on the specific WAYS that 5's and 1's seem to be intelligent? I don't have any ideas why 1's are, as I am not a 1 myself and have no experience with it, but my guess for 5's would be that we are more intelligent in mathematical and logical thinking. 5's just USE it a lot; we have practice. We like to do it. To look at it the other way, if someone isn't good at mathematical thinking, they wouldn't learn to like it and be a 5.

As for sheer mental horsepower, I wouldn't expect that any type would have an advantage over another. Stuff like that is, mostly, not an acquired skill; doing memory excercises over and over again will only help you so much. If I had to choose, I might say that a 9 might have a slight advantage here, because of his/her peaceful disposition - less stress hormones during childhood = better mental development.

Verbal skills? Those come mostly just from reading a lot, and having a taste for certain styles of literature over others. Maybe 7's or 4's would be the winners here.

All the above opinions are not very long thought out and they are not based on any actual facts. They are just idle speculation. Don't get mad if you don't like 'em.

Oh, and to nastily jab back at your "Dare I write it" crack - IQ wise, I am a lot smarter than you are!

: Why do ones think it is a great test while 5's constantly discredit it? Though I am a 1 after reading a lot of the comments on the one board I'm beginning to really wish I was a really funky coolio groovy 5 - like I'd always believed.

: Hmmm, I think perhaps I made a mistake - that's it 5's often have difficulty admitting their wrong... (I'm not thinking of anyone in particular:) yes that's it I'm definitely a pseudo-5!

: But seriously how different are 5's and 1's? Are 5's more intellectual - most 1's I know are in university - wait all the 1's I know are in university (For the Americans Univeristy = College = Tertiary Education, savvy?) or are heading there very soon. Though they tend to be in environmental science or teaching and the fives are doing engineering, computer science, chemistry and Arts.

: As a psychology student (Though I now think psychology is the biggest waste of time) it has occured to me that the most important factor determining the IQ of most people is their personality. For example I know a girl with an IQ of 135-140 now my IQ on the same test was about 122 - now none of our friends would say she was more intelligent than I(I'd argue that she is - only her intelligence is very narrowly used so her full potential intellectualy is has never been realised) This is all assuming you can rely on the testimony of IQ tests - I don't, but to illustrate my point I used that example.

: So my major question is:

: What features of type 5's and 1's make them intelligent? I'm fulling aware of the Jungian explanation and the myers-briggs but I don't think these typographies are sufficient an explanation - as 2's can be brilliantly intelligent but tend not to be(Sorry if I just insulted some of you) in the same way 5's and 1's are. If you get what I mean.
