Your typical example may be found in some Sevens (though being an E and idea-oriented do not, by themselves, make one a Seven). Here is what I'm thinking. (Please realize I'm talking off the cuff here... this isn't something I've really considered in depth.) I think 5s have a kind of internal attachment. The lack of bonding with parents, premature differentiation... lead to a kind of 'bonding' that takes place in the internal world. I really think introversion and bonding/differentiation issues are related. As if, in order to be extraverted, one must clearly experience a bond and a fully developed sense of self and other. I don't see introversion as being 'withdrawn' but as not experiencing the 'other' as a nurturing, separate... EXTERNAL... being. Schizoid splitting is a clue to this with 5s... Norman Bates the type 9 is another clue.
