You make a good point--> what is friendship to a one person is different than friendship to another. I also know a couple people who would consider me a friend but they really know absolutely nothing but the most superficial things about me. I think with 5s, knowledge of each other is what defines the relationship.
I really feel sorry for men in western culture because they are very limited in regards to forming meaningful bonds with others. Ofcourse, where culture ends many also choose to continue the pattern and be self-limiting--> even into their family relationships. (I'm not saying this is necessarily true of you.)
Actually when the need to work through problems arises, 5s have one advantage in that we work through our emotions intellectually. It's probably much easier to find someone to speak with about "personal philosophies" than "personal feelings"!
