Everyone has their own reasons for watching a movie. For most, I think movie preference corresponds to fantasy preference. Type 2s love a good romance, 1s probably like something where justice is dealt out in the end, 4s something melodramic I suppose... so what for 5s? I go to a movie for one of two reasons (1) it's well put together and I can analyze plot, character development, visual effect, etc.--> yes, I serious or (2) it appeals to my sense of fun/humor which is fairly dark and dry.
This has been a very poor year for movies as far as I'm concerned particularly when you consider last year... American Beauty, Topsy Turvy, Three Kings, Boys Don't Cry (thinking movies)... Sleepy Hollow, 6th Sense (fun movies)... AND FOR FUN AND THINKING? Being John Malcovich.
