Interesting question, but there I really wonder how much cultural habit do influence. Here in Europe, most movies are a great deal more "intellectual" and artistic. I tend to appreciate poetry and images that say a lot in a very sober way, I'm thinking of Bresson as I write or Ozu. Another great french movie maker I love and suspect is a 5 is Alain Resnais. I also like Eric Rohmer ( certainly a 4w5), a very refined observer of people. I do prefer subtle movies to heavy obvious noisy schematic stuff. Among american movie makers I enjoy John Cassavetes and Jim Jarmush or Sam Fuller. I also find Jane Campion so lucid and sharp.
: What are some really good movies that would appeal to a 5? Looking at the movie listings
: for this week looks pretty boring. I saw "Pay it Forward" and thought it was pretty good - 3*
: on a 5* scale. I liked "6th sense." Has anyone seen any of the following?
: Beautiful, Bedazzled , Bring It On, The Contender, Digimon: The Movie, Dr. T and The Women,
: The Exorcist - The Version You've Never Seen, Get Carter , The Ladies Man, Legend of Drunken
: Master, Lost Souls, Meet the Parents, Pay it Forward , Remember the Titans, Replacements,
: Space Cowboys, Watcher, What Lies Beneath.
: How about rental movie titles that would appeal to a 5? I liked the old movie 'Colossus, the Forbin
: Adventure". Also "the last of the Mohicans."
