: So, I'm curious... does anyone else here tend to have problems with maintaining friendships and other relationships because of inattention? When I'm focused on something I can completely tune out the world around me for long periods of time.

I have to set an alarm clock to remind me to go to bed at night when I'm focusing on something. Does that answer your question? ;) On another level, I've met people who consider me rude just because I've not said hi or goodbye to them personally, when I've already stated that I'm in a hurry to get somewhere and have said general byes to the group, the thought of it somehow being a required thing that I greet every single one of my acquaintances (yes, I too have levels of friendship, friend, pal and acquaintance, after stranger) never even having crossed my mind. They felt I was ignoring them and I was completely surprised about that. Not sure if it goes under the topic, but I think it's related.

: When I don't have something to focus on, I am chronically bored.

YES! Oh finally, finally someone who suffers from the same thing. :) If I don't have anything to focus on I'm bored out of my mind, so I keep looking for something to think about every time that happens. An idle mind is boring. It doesn't matter what I focus on, if it's something superficial or extra technical, just as long as there's something to think about.

:In either state, I find myself very annoyed with people... either they are distractions from my thoughts or proponents of boredom. Is this necessarily wrong? Is there something flawed about someone who is happiest alone?

I hope not, otherwise I'm in big trouble. ;)
