: If a person were high on both that person would see more than seems to be there-- yes, you are right. But that person would also likely have a difficult time understanding things literally (everything would be figurative) and this could give them a difficult time in mechanical subjects, scientific observation, or any kind of rote learning. I suspect the balanced person at point (0,0) would be the real ideal. xxxxxxxxxxxx No, actually, it is desirable to be high scoring on both the x & y axis (unless you consider ignorance a bliss). Also, the chart extends along only the positive x & y axis - ie. all categories are in the same quadrant - not one in each quadrant. (a large square subdivided into 4 small equally sized squares with point (0,0) at the bottom left corner of the big square) I think that the problem formulator has the ability to think more laterally and to see environment and context - to see woods from trees. At least that is my guess. Whereas, the problem solver takes a problem and breaks it down and converges to a solution. Perhaps the problem formulator is more a divergient thinker. It's the terminology which I am trying to make sense of. Here is some more info - in the PROBLEM SOLVER "box" is: problem solver a scientific orientation defines alternatives - recommends solutions in the PROBLEM FORMULATOR "box" is: problem formulator an artistic orientation formulate the mess (mess is technical jargon for set of conditions which can be improved but first the problems must be identified) INNOVATOR "box": innovator/pathfinder a systematic orientation: purposeful behavior, sits the direction, identifies issues, context DOER "box": doers a practical orientation: implements solutions
