Interesting topic.
There is a well studied and documented "metaprogram" (cgnitive process) called "match/mismatch". It defines an axis with two polar ends.At one end stand the people who subconsciously focus on differences, at the other end stand those who subconsciously focus on similarities. For a trained person, it is fun to notice these basic processes in discussions. The most meaningful correlations made with these subconscious choices are linked to identity/perception of self vs others. As a good illustration, there is a strong correlation between enneatypes and the point of focus: 1s, 6s and 8s definitely show a natural preference for noticing differences while 2s, 3s and 9s usually are naturally proned to focusing on similarities while 4s, 5s and 7s are flexible and their focus will depend on a specific context.
