liz hit the nail on the head as usual. touch probably wouldn't be a bad thing, but your friend probably would as soon ask for it as... well, as burst into tears.

: : I have a friend (5w4) who burst into tears recently ostensibly over a health issue. However, within 5 minutes, she had burst into tears over another unrelated issue. Do 5's do this? Should I be concerned about her mental state? This is most untypical - and how should I approach this? Because of the 5 reserve, and my not being a touch feely sort of person myself, I did not embrace or touch her but just tried to listen to what she wanted to disclose. Can other 5's enlighten or tell me what they would appreciate as a response. Thanks Sharlee

: Hmmmm, Sharlee, I think sometimes once the pain is tapped and starts to flow, it's not always easy to shut off... and for 5s, other things looooooong ignored take advantage of the opportunity to slip out.... plus, since we don't cry often, the loss of rational control can be confusing and frustrating in and of itself.

: Though we certainly won't reach for it, I think touch is one of the best things for a 5 in pain. Anything that brings us into our skin is good for us.
