Looking at them both from the outside. what does "basic and outside their actual content" mean? any "very basic premise" of any philosophy is a part of its actual content. it seems to me that what you're driving at is that proponents of both are willing to argue that they're right. but that's hardly a similarity between the philosophies themselves. by that reasoning, you could argue that ANY philosophy is similar (to an uninformed and uninterested observer) to any other. but i don't know how you could say that there's ANYTHING significantly similar between egoism and collectivism of any sort. isaac
