I haven't read the "Real Rules" book, but I read "The Rules" once as research for a story I was writing. That book is horrifying! I kept thinking, how can these women say these things?!!! Anyway, yes, being yourself is important, but do you ever feel like you're such an oddball that it would be really difficult to find someone you're truly compatible with? Sometimes I wonder whether I'm being authentic or whether I'm encouraging "strangeness" in myself as a way of keeping people at a distance. It's difficult to sort it out. When I was 20 I knew a guy who seemed ideal for me. Unfortunately, he was in love with someone else at the time. I found out recently that he married someone other than the person he was in love with when he met me, and that upset me. (I'm 35.) I haven't met any other guys who have come even close to being that ideal for me. Justin (my co-worker) has potential. I haven't talked with him at length yet, but he seems to have substance. I admit that it's his physical appearance that first caught my attention. He's beautiful. We'll see.
