while i would not attempt to count bush as in any way aiding the economy to improve, there are many variables that do not involve him. one that people don't seem to consider is the obvious capitalistic "grow or die" situation, as applied to this modern, largely physically productless industry referred to as IT/etc. the way i see it, and perhaps i'm alone here, the current economy is a naturally capitalistic reaction to the slowing down of an industry that blew up enormously and quickly saturated much of its potential marketspace, much as the great depression was related to the industrial revolution, though i think we've lucked out so far, since the IT revolution produced precious little physical product, leaving many otherwise nonreusable equipment/personnel/materials/etc. i'm not sure how anyone feels about this, but it seems pretty intuitive to me, as did the "bubble effect" (something i was describing as the "bicycle effect" in my uneducated lingo 5 years ago). anyway, i hope that is somewhat useful speculation.

now as far as the realtime effects of one person in office, i think that a> most politicians are reprobates b> clinton, in accordance with my point a, was such a person (as is bush) c> the world is full of people with problems that are more complex than partisan propaganda of any kind (let me at this point state that i like neither bush nor clinton-i would have voted for hagelin if i'd thought anyone cared) and d> allowing one crappy big-ticket political party is a bad intellectually tactical move, especially for a 5. just my extremely subjective opinion, of course.
