Enneagram Type 5 Board Archive Re taboo postPosted by Margaret on November 20, 2000 at 16:21:11: I could not reply to the earlier post directly under it's thread, RA, so I had to continue it with it new thread - due to the board 'move'. If people did not abide by social norms, you would have no job, no customers, no business, no money, no way to get around society, because no one would want to deal with someone who has no regard for others. No one enjoys following rules, etiquette, ect. It takes up lots of energy and is a small pain to keep doing - but the cost of *not* paying attention and consideration to others is way too high a loss for me to just not give a darn about losing. Again, it's another profit-loss thing where the most miniscule, smallest efforts it takes to pay attention to someone else is *well*, *well* worth losing huge gobs of whatever it could be that that person has that you want and could have gotten if only you paid attention to them. Yes, politics is very petty, like I said, it's a pain, most 5s would agree, but the more important question is - what would I lose (this persons respect of me) if I dont pay attention to them? You never know when you need someone. Also, since you are a guy - I will tell you how most women think: So, too, likewise, if you have proper manners, you are not guaranteed to get a wife (s*x in your language), but having manners will increase your odds in getting a chance at it, as much as a racquet would the Winblemdon - see what I'm getting at? In other words, manners does not win the game for you. Manners is what makes you considered *eligible to play*.
