Enneagram Type 5 Board Archive pet personality typesPosted by isaacthe54 on November 21, 2000 at 12:12:53: i think this is very interesting. of course, it's remarkably harder to type things that we can't talk with about their personality. it's like trying to type people in a foriegn sitcom. of course animals have personality types. just look at humans and the enneagram, for one. but, if you look at it, there's a lot of distinctive human qualities in each enneagram type, that wouldn't necessarily be a part of another sort of animal's personality. it's likely that chimps or other primates would fall into something akin to the human enneagram, but what about cats? cats, if you notice, don't really have the same sort of need for interpersonal connection and structured social hierarchy that humans have. (there are 40 words in the cat language: 30 mean get away from me, and 7 mean i don't care about you.) fear and anger triads seem to make sense when describing cats, but does self image? maybe. would there be cats that are obsessed with being right, as 1s are? or with being intellectually capable, like 5s? do cats really ever have the sort of need to defend another that 8s do towards their "tribe"? do they even HAVE a tribe mentallity in any real way? i think in dogs, you're likely to see a lot of 6 and 8-like characteristics. of course, their 8ness may just be counterphobia. they certainly like being told what to do, but at the same time, you have to earn their respect before you can command them. until they learn to speak english, i guess we'll never know. isaac
