Enneagram Type 5 Board Archive Reason and logic- not for all 5sPosted by Gigi on July 19, 2000 at 04:52:17: I wonder if the 5s feel overwhelmed by so much intrusion from other types on their board. But I can't help it. I find this place a reasonable forum to discuss many things (if it doesn't get diluted with antagonism!) The following is more of an inquiry than a statement. To assign reason and logic to Enneatype 5 would be a mistake I think. Reason and logic search for definite right answers. They are analytical, exact, direct, precise, specific, and focused. They deal with reality, what is before you. On the other hand, there is conceptual thinking which brings forth many right answers. It deals with metaphors, dreams, fantasies, approximations, ambiguity. One writer differentiates these as hard and soft thinking. So Enneatype 5s can have either or both of these thinking styles, like any other type. In Myerss Briggs terms Extraverted Thinking would be represent hard thinking, P and especially Introverted Thinking and Intuition would speak for soft thinking.
