Most descriptions of personality profiles tend to be very factual and restrictive. This may create a lot of confusion. On one hand, the same observed behavior may have a very different purpose (motivation) for two different persons, so the main info, motivation, has been left out athough it is THE KEY to identifying the true personality structure. The shortcut, forgetting to aknowledge the importance of motivations, is a "statistical" simplification intoduced by the need to draw standard griddles. But it can only measure very superficial correlations.
On the other hand, we all are complex individuals with layers of inner substructures and all have a number of subpersonalities, would it be our two directions and wings, who all at times influence our perception and behavior.
I have found through much experience that our deeper inner core is our real type, its structure is very stable. The best way to identify it is through what touches us most deeply, our very basic and most important values, those who basically organise our cognitive processes. For us fives, it is the need to draw some sense out of chaos, which for the very young child got induced by a lack of meaningful or safe bonds.

: I'm an INTP, and I guess a 5w4. I tried reading an INTP list and it never stuck with me - too much trying to be the type, IMO, and with no offense intended. However, the comment, I paraphrase "sometimes I just want to wring thier necks, logic and reason aren't everything, but I suppose that would be pointless. No, it would not be pointless, they/we can use it, but you might get that across better if you explained it a logical and rational manner, no? :)
