Enneagram Type 5 Board Archive Confusion between point 5 and point 1Posted by 5or1woman (208.187.131.107) on August 06, 2003 at 12:58:07: I am pretty sure type 5 best describes me, but sometimes I wonder if the 1 fits me better. Has anyone else had this confusion? How can I figure it out? I have read lots of type descriptions and different theories, but I am just not sure (how 5 does this sound?!). In fact, my current attitudes are better described by the 5 point, but when I consider how I was as a child and teenager, I think the 1 point is more accurate. These days I strongly identify with the needs to understand and control my environment, but in the past I was more decisive and idealistic, more interested in fixing things than understanding them. Is it possible that I am a type 1 somehow acting in type 5 ways? Or that as a child I was a type 5, but identified more with type 1? Is there any connection between type 5 and 1 to support this? My parents are not type 5s or 1s so I don't think I picked it up from anyone. Other things about me: I was an only child and alone a lot. I am pretty sure that my husband is a type 7.
