So much of the joy, perhaps even usefulness of the MBTI and indeed other systems, seems to be in the recognition of oneself in a type description. I particularly find the descriptions of ENFP make me feel happy in some way, and to me that's useful! As a pretty much 'lost' person, lacking any sort of roots, it means a lot to me to be able to locate myself. Reading the Enneagram Type Four description initially gave me that Eureka feeling, a sense of having found myself I suppose, and I felt that way about the ENFP description. It also highlights my faults which again is more recognition than discovery. It's a reminder though, and Plato reckoned that all learning was recognition. One thing I did recently which was useful, was to extract all the things from all the types which connected with teaching in some way, and drew up a list of the things I needed to improve on. This was a discovery process, as it really clarified my particular areas of weakness. I guess that was just making use of a supply of behaviour descriptions, but i may go into it deeper and look at them in relation to types and motivations. It all gets you thinking anyway. I suppose I have discovered stuff about myself that I didn't know, but that's all a bit too new and tentative to talk about yet.
