I've heard somewhere that your Enneatype is your defense mechanism against outside pressures and hurts. Your MBTI is your core personality. When a person goes in for counselling, they are more apt to identify with their Ennetype/afterwards identifying with their MBTI. The more different the two are from each other - the more tension there is inside.
Example: I am a classic INFJ - very high (40s) in all my numbers. When correlated with the Enneagram (Point 4) I should be an INFP (Which, looking back at my past - I probably was an INFP at an earlier age.) When I am under stress I become much more artistic and free-spirited, write much more fluently and with more drama, etc. I have found out that even though these seem like wonderful traits - they are a precursor to less stable times ahead.
