OPPORTUNITY for volunteers this fall to train organizations for/by people with physical disabilities in Central America to use information and communication technologies ICT. Apply your skills to a new arena, experience a different culture, enhance your communication skills, and make an impact. Although helpful, no prior experience working with people with disabilities is necessary. Training will be provided prior to deployment. Training will be September 18 to September 22 in Washington; DC and deployment will be on September 22 to El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua for approximately two months. All expenses are covered. People with disabilities are encouraged to apply. People interested in deployments next year are also encouraged to apply.
Background: This deployment is under the auspices of Net Corps Americas, an initiative of the Trust for the Americas, Organization of American States.
Compensation: All travel, food, lodging and health insurance expenses are covered. Participating disability organizations will provide room and board.
Requirements: Must speak Spanish. Skills in web design and maintenance, the Internet, word processing and data management programs. Volunteers should have an interest in ICT and working with people with disabilities. Volunteers are expected to work 8 hours a day for five days a week.
