Let me back up. Enneagram self-typing helps one to see the motivation
underlying one'e behavior. The Enneagram figure (nine-sides) helps one
to find a way different than the preferred path. The Enneagram has two
goupings: triad (3,6,9); hexad (1,4,2,7,5,8.) Arrow theory purports that for
the hexad group, there exists a pattern related to Pythagoreon Numbers.
Specifically, if you divide 1 by 7 you obtain a recurring pattern: 142857
142857... Skipping details and disagreements. If a hexad type incorporates
positive aspects of the next type, it has an integrating effect on behavior.
Conversely, if one goes against the pattern, one incorporates the negative aspects
of that type. This is not a universally agreed upon subject, by the way.
So, if you are a 4, going to 1 then to 7 is one direction. Usually a
direction that is healthy. If you are a 4 and go to 2 then to 8, you are
likely incorporating less functional characteristics of human behavior.
So one version of Enneagram persuasion goes. Wings (4w5) is another topic,
but I think few, if any of us, think wings go to other points in arrow
terminology. Most of the popular books describe this more clearly and in
more detail. Your MBTI scores tell you about how you prefer to take in
information (percieve.) and how you like to decide (judge) an which of the
two you prefer. It is more involved than that but it is a start.
In my opinion, if I understand my motivation (enneagram type) and I understand
by MBTI, I have more choices about my life patterns. This only important
to me. Some one else has a different take on all this and its benefits.
My outlook reflects 9 INTJ stuff. This posting will elicit resposes from
others with passions of their own. Final thoughts: many of us have spent
varying amounts of time in workshops, reading books, chatting, and taking
tests. Sometimes, if not often, it takes some effort and insight to arrive
at type. It is not uncommon for people to come to a different understanding, a
few or several years after typing. Defenses play a role.

To the flamers amongst us. I can take the heat, Try to offer Herion the benefit of
your insight as well as set me straight, okay?
