I'm a female 1 and had a relationship of sorts (?) with a male 5 for a couple of years. What I found perplexing was his ability to detach in an on/off fashion on relationship intimacy. Unlike all of the other types, I felt like I was dealing with 2 people in a 5 and I could not get a feel for who was the real person. I felt that it was not my place to intrude into this second self and hoped that he might respond and come closer to me. However, this was not to be and I eventually decided to bail out of the relationship due to my needs not being met. No scenes, plenty of unfinished business, no resolving talks. Pity - he was an exceptionally nice guy. I've come to the conclusion that you need the intrusive 2's to get through the 5 barriers.
