In object relations terms, the diferrence would be the stage of separation for 4 or 9. Everyone is gradually separating and individuating. Gut is an aspect of moving on. Lacking gut access, interferes with the process. 4s have an underlying sadness (depressive) due to unresolved loss. Focus on felt emotion and the missing aspect of life avoids "getting over it." By contrast, 9 may be over identified with "other" and comforatble with the status quo. Personality may be submerged/underdeveloped. Attempts to move on result in ontological anxiety. (a void where ego ought to be.) The solution for both 4 and 9 is working through the abandonment depression to find ego strength and personal accountability. For 4, that is arrow move to 1. For 9 that is arrow move to 3. When authors talk about parent relationship, I think they are talking (caregiver) archetypes and the manner in which each type pays attention to early life. 5s are in a similar pattern;mental detachment self/object issues manifest as schizoid traits. Gut is at 8 and used to defend against introjects and moves 5s to engage life. Selective Seritonin Re-uptake Inhibitors are the drug of choice. SAM-e is the herbal.
