Your interpretation of the Enneagram as being something one can use for strengthening the ego is at odds with all the writers I've reaad on it. The void experienced by Nines is the sense of lack of Essence, not of the ego. The ego is made up of defences and these should not be strenthened as they are neurotic and unreliable compared to the strength brought about by realising that one is connected to Essence, that one indeed IS Essence.
