You seem to be head-on there to me. The similarity of these two types -- a feeling of abandonment is what confuses me as to whether I am a 4 or 9. (Sorry, I am too focused on myself. :P) I think that 9's feel the same thing as 4's, but cope differently. 9's accomodate rather than fight this feeling. So, I would definitely say that 9's are more resigned. 9's may feel that if they are accomodating enough that the rest of mankind will accept them again. If I am a 9, then I probably just expect more closeness out of mankind than mankind gives anyway...
