Yes I will concede that the die into which the elements of life are pour is cast long before our twenties. For example it is conceivable that as a child I felt the detatchment from a father who worked long hours and a mother who worked nights and attempted to watch me while she caught cap naps. (Fundamental necessities for a SEVEN typology.) Yet it was not until adolesence that the defense mechanisms which are determinant of enneagram typing were identifiable. Arguably, with just a slight variation in environmental factors I may have just as easily adjusted to ONE or FIVE behavior; I suspect that it is not much different from any other personality type, as well. Indeed, ONE, at a healthy level, does not seem so bad (and it does make a nice meeting place for me and my FOUR spouse). I abandon SEVEN to FIVE quite easily, and can even be cajoled to pick up the reins and drive the team when no other leader is in sight. Which brings me to an interesting point is that w/EIGHT or is that a result of developing past my FIVE (counter arrow)? I know that I am filled with self-doubts w/SIX, but a strongly developed sense of DO (SEVEN) keeps them in check. Finally, I so desire to be more of service (TWO) and more feeling (FOUR) and yet those are the two points of our "gram" that seem to be the most difficult to achieve. Recently, I became a high school teacher and I have mentioned that I feel quite a bit like a parish priest... so maybe I am developing a TWO balance. But that pesky FOUR and the emotional baggage that I am carrying, with those closest to me... I just can't seem to work through that one and that is the singular aspect of the SEVEN that is a real sticky point for me... maybe if I tried a bit more and rather damn the consequences, heh?
