: Can some one sort this out for me please? Eights are defenders of the victims of the world (help them to find justice) BUT they have little tolerance for those who show weakness (respect the strong). How can these two seemingly diametrical views exist in the same person?
: Thanks to Dave and Mykl for the advice. I'm going to wait a bit before approaching my friend - he's travelling in a few days. If you have any more to say I'm listening!
As an aside, all types have opposing views pulling us in different directions at the same time. We are all walking paradoxes. That's what's so brilliant and natural about the way the Enneagram is set up, with the various connections between different points.
Sorry this doesn't help you with the immediate problem, but I'm also a 4 with very little positive experience dealing with 8's. The advice given so far is good. The important thing for a 4 is to take the anger and criticism for what it is. While it is personal, it is about your actions, not your innermost self. Just because someone's angry at you doesn't mean you're a terrible person.
