: 6's get a feeling of fear or anxiety. This manifests in a number of ways; doubting others or self, putting distance between self and the object of the fear (including mental distance to fearfull internal thoughts), inactivity and/or procrastination as to avoid greater exposure to percieved threats, exaggerating the percieved danger, or irrationally going after the object of the fear.

: All of these imply REACTION the the fearfull or anxious impulse. To stand firm means to not let the feelings of fear, anxiety, and doubt overwhelm you into action or inaction that is detrimental to you and those you care about.

: To me standing for a 6 is:

: Stopping the doubting mind when it comes in.
: Standing and not running away from, or towards the percieved threat.
: Standing by your own thoughts, opinions, perceptions, and inner beliefs when challenged by an apparent authority.
: Moving ahead in TRUST when feelings of paralysis and procrastination come in.

This makes it much clearer. It seems I have more 6 traits than I thought. I have always had problems dealing with authority figures, and seem to fall into either phobic or counterphobic 6 mode when faced with one. I guess I'm having trouble seeing the middle ground between running towards or running away. When confronted by an authority, what lies between sticking to your guns and giving in?

At least part of the problem is a mental and emotional one--stopping the flood of fear and pain that comes up so it doesn't become paralyzing. But even when I can quiet my mind and heart, I still have the action question of what to do.
