A"billy goat story, picture, etc" is an old Southern expression for something about someone that shouldn't be known in polite society. ie. I've got a picture of him/her doing something ( picture it) with a billy goat. The absolute worst thing you could imagine to be made public about yourself. Monica's dress, for instance.
The gist of my uncle's stories was that Patton never did anything unless he could receive credit for it. Sometimes he screwed up, but the mindset was there. He and his PR people put on a show of him being an 8, but, in fact, it was all a calculated 3 type ploy. "old blood and guts" has come down in the history books, but his troop's definition, "his guts and our blood" has not. He based all his actions around " how am I going to appear to the public" if I do this. The reason he screwed up so often is that he was a self serving 3 putting on an 8 facade. He was acting the role and when it came time to think on his feet as an 8, he couldn't do it.
