> A front-page story in the Wall Street Journal today concerns women and the unhealthy torture they are putting their feet through just to fit in the extremely narrow, pointy-toe, high-heeled shoes/boots that are popular in some circles right now. They are HVIING THEIR TOES SURGICALLY SHORTENED, FP: I never knew people get surgery to make their toes shorter. Wow! It is amazing what sacrifices people would make for the sake of fashion! I remember when I used to live in Huntsville, I used to see women wear nothing but sheer (thin) stockings and high heel shoes, while the men are properly covered for warmth. I don't see the men making that sacrifice for fashion during the cold of winter! FP: Well, I was learning about dress reform and how women gained diseased bodies in order age because of the sacrifices of their younger years for the sake of fashion. The woman who wrote this stuff died in 1915. I tend to agree with her. I look at elderly men and woman and see a difference in them walking and the problems that they face in walking. I am glad that I gave up hills and panti hose or stalkings during the winters and protect my body as men does. FP: I admit, it was fun running in high hill shoes when I was a kid. I did not always know how to behave in those shoes. ha, ha, ha.
FP: This is quite an interesting observation. > I am sure that type 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 would not wear these. They do not have that need to be passively validated by others (or themselves in the case of 1s!) FP: I think some 7s does do these things, especially the ones that look like Barbie dolls. I put comfort over fashion, but if I can have both, that would be a win-win situation for me. I like comfortable fashion with vibrant colors without the colors being too bright and gaurdy or flamboyuant. FP: This topic does remind me of "foot binding" among the Confusians in China when they used to tie little girl's feet, so they won't grow big and ugly (I suppose) and when they become women, they have cute tiny feet that looks cute in the tiny shoes, yet they suffer and cannot walk too well because of the sacrifices they had to make for the sake of fashion. It is sad. Sadder than seeing this board end forever. FP: In the US, we have the fashion industry and the media influencing us from early childhood, while others fight for liberation to be authentic and themselves. Which is more important to you, image or authenticity? Flower Pagan
