Hi, Tal's response seemed very insightful and clear. I wanted to offer
the thought that self-typing is a process, not an event. Asking questions is
a beginning, finding answers that are authentic with 'self' is individuation.
Individuation is a life long process, but clarity about one's feelings,
values, attitudes, needs, wants, etc. emerge (and change.) In a nut shell,
all of us are complex, interesting, dynamic beings. Sorting out the pieces
we are most intimately associated with occurs at different stages of life.
We all have our own time table. Some Enneatypes have more diffuse boundaries
than others. Some are more susceptible to introjects than others. Some
repress, deny, deceive, project, avoid, etc. Sorting things out is a personal
journey. With it comes personal payoff. Sometimes the MBTI helps slice
factors from another perspective. Combined, the Enneagram and the MBTI provide
a lot of information for self-observation. Not all people want that though.
Books and tests help, but I personally advocate live human interaction with
others in a workshop. Assuming various levels of skill and leadership, one
can get meaningful feedback and experience. (Oral tradition)
