Hmm... I can begin to see where you are coming from, now. Still, I'm not sure that your typing of most people here as sixes is accurate...

Take Tal, for example, who you type as a six. Looking at his first response to one your postings, especially the start line, it might appear that he's attached to his 'set in stone' ideas about the Enneagram and MBTI. But, if you look at some of his earlier postings, we see a quite different story. Far from being an authority-obsessive, Tal can be quite the 4ish-5ish iconoclast when he wants to. If you read some of his stuff on wing theories, for example, or his 'Enneagram cube' idea on the EMBTI boards, you can see just how unconventional he can be when he choses to... But on the other hand, he recognises that some 'authorites' have valid things to say from time to time, and if their ideas fit with his thinking, he'll accept them. Accepting the 'authority' of an authority every now and again doesn't make one a six, any more than reading a few books, spending some time on your own and coming up with your own ideas occasionally makes one a five. Most people do both every now and again...

Now, the tone of that particular posting could be taken as being indicative of his status as a six. On the other hand, it could be that he's pretty attached to his own thinking, doesn't suffer _what he sees as_ fools gladly, and doesn't set much score by the art of tact. There's nothing particularly sixish about this these three - in fact, they would probably apply more to fives than to sixes. Tal himself types himself as a four, and although his posting style looks more indicative of a five than a four, there are all sorts of other factors out there which I don't know about and he does. Given that he has the advantage here, I am prepared to accept his opinion on his type as being accurate.

Oh, and a few more things. There's a difference between needing an enemy, and fighting one when one comes up...

And, I've just thought of another good example of apparent sixishness in someone who I'm pretty sure isn't a six. Statements like 'It is clear from the responses that not enough people have studied Dobson and Hurley close enough.' - which could be taken as a reference to authority - and the quote begining 'TYPE SIX Most senators, ceo's, presidents...', certainly looks like sixish enemy-forming. Although with a little sophistry it could be successfully argued that the only people that statement is hostile towards certain types of journalists and dictators, I would say from the tone of that line that the focus of hostility is a little wider than that.

So, you have my post. It's got some 5ish observation, probably some of the 1s diadactic 'I know best' tone, and possibly a little sixishess as well. And I suppose that there is a bit of sixishness in me - but there's a bit of sixishness (and fiveishness, and fourishness, and all of the other types) in everyone...

My apologies to Tal and Johnny Five in the event that I have _misrepresented_ them...
