1, 2, 5: the "tact/withholding" group - "tact" can be called a process of withholding. The 1 withholds wayward (improper) instincts (a cornerstone habit of morality); the 2 withholds negative feelings (especially about, and toward, others); the 5 withholds information ("don't say too much, don't let people in on my secrets").

4, 8, 9: the "self-stimulatory-through-relations-with-others" group. WHY, you may ask, does the Seven not belong in this group? Because they are as stimulated by ideas and exciting situations (sans people) as they are about people. Why not the 2? Because 2s serve others to reinforce their sense of self, but paradoxically (neurotically), they often deny themselves their own piece of the pie. The 4 wants stimulation through emotional contact with others; the 8, through conflict, and the 9, through "merging."

3, 6, 7: the "actively-seeking-to-stir-up-the-social-scene" group: not necessarily "relational" in the sense of the last group; more concerned with issues of status. 3: do they admire me? 6: are they angry/dishonest toward me? 7: is there a painful situation in the social scene that my happy charm can clear up (shrugging in fear of pain)? They actively stir up the scene - 3: look at me! 6: I'm likable and loyal, I assure you... 7: be happy, look at the bright side.
