I believe (correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know all that much about the MBTI) that IS has to do more with description of internal states. I think knowledge, especially of the 5ish sort, has much more to do with thinking, specifically introverted thinking. And this is what 5's take pride in--their ability to reason and understand. On the whole I think you find that people generally take pride in what they do best. And what they do best is never their third function. Twos take pride in their caring and empathy, which is nothing if not Extraverted Feeling. Sevens take pride in the pleasure and joy they derive from sensuous experience, which again is the Extraverted Sensing function. Ones take pride in their ability to know what's right and apply it to the external world (Extroverted Thinking) etc. etc...
