I see a problem with the boat analogy:
There is an implicit assumption that the search for truth is a game of life or death -- if you don't find and get on the right boat, you drown. So the notion of a saviour is built in here, and I think it would be hard for anyone from the Christian perspective not to jump all over that, as they appear to be doing.
I really don't look at it this way. The search for truth is a quest I am on because the beauty of Truth compels me to seek it out, not because I am at all concerned with saving myself.
I am not disatisfied with what I already mow in the sense that I would be looking for a missing piece to fnd completion. I take delight in all the spiritual relvelations that come to me on my way down the path of life. As an agnostic, I appreciate that knwoledge within the Universe is infinite and my mind and lifespan are only finite, so I as I said before, I do not presume that I will ever know for sure what ultimate Truth is, and I am quite content with that.
Otherwise, Tal, your logic with the boat analogy is crystal clear, and I must say that I am envious of your ability to articulate your ideas here, especially as I hold so many of them the same.
Thanks,
Snake
