My grandfather is an archetypical 1 - a career army Colonol (logistical comander during ww2 & Korea) who, after he retired, went on to work for his city council, organize his islands's huricane evacuation plan, and to serve as an EMT - good grief! I must say one thing - and this may be discouraging, but don't get discouraged - he is basically impossible to please.

When I try to please him by doing things his way, he gets all the more critical of what I am doing, so I've learned not to expect approval, and not to blame myself when it doesn't come.

What interests him? sports, talking about military organization, doing thoughful things like getting just he right Christmas present, researching consumer information services to find the best deal or investment, going to church, telling his children (my mother & uncles) what they should do with their lives.

Also I think that I am a 9 with a 1 wing (though I'm not sure I understand the wing theories). 1ish interests of mine are talking about the ethics within organizational structures (please don't believe that I am too boring, this is just a small part of me) detail work in pieces of art I engage in with my friends, and getting my act together, which seems to be a constant uphill struggle (doesn't help to have real 1s point out how bad I am at it)

I suspect it may be a real challenge for a 4 to deal with a 1 parental figure. Perhaps it is frustrating to be corrected by someone else continually when you are already hard on yourself in a certain way (does that apply to you?)

: I am a Type 4, so I have already more passions than I can handle. My mother is a Type 1, and she doesn't even know what her passions are. Recently an old college friend of hers asked her casually what her passions are, and I think it was an awakening for her when she couldn't come up with an answer. She is entirely work/responsibility driven.

: I'm wondering if there are healthy Ones out there who would be willing to share what their interests and passions are. This includes hobbies and the like, and on a deeper level, the themes that drive their lives. I don't know much about One, so I'm trying to understand my mother better and help her understand her Oneness.
