Our son possesses the qualities of a type 9/ MBTI:ENFP.

At age 20, he has failed to prevail due to an inability or unwillingness to
initiate action and/or stay on task. He is unmotivated by reward or punishment.
He resists and resents direction, especially from authority. A better
than average athelete, coaches did not see an adequate level of "hussle" to
believe in his ability to perform.
A psychologist we saw 2 years
ago, who uses enneagrams as a therapeutic tool, applied the term "comfort
junkie" to him. He also suspected my husband is a 9.
I'm a ENTJ who has tried to address character issues at the risk of sacrafic
ing family harmony. (I might be a 2 with a strong 1 wing or a 1 with wishy washy 2/9
wings.) Now I think my sense of self respect/sanity is at stake.

I've suggested he enlist in the military to get the discipline he lacks in
order to attain a sense of achievement he's been deprived of for whatever
reason. Any coping advice?
