Absolutely--we can't expect another to come along and rescue us. If we look for answers outside of ourselves, we are sure to be disappointed. This is not to say that others are not helpful or can't be trusted--we definitely need others in our lives. But it means that we must look within for fulfillment, not without.

Cecil, how about God as a father figure in your life? I'll bet in this sense, you do have a father figure and don't even know it. When people look for a father figure, they are looking for a wise protector, someone who will keep them safe. I know you relate to this from things you've written in the past. It is, of course, and ideal, and no real person or father can measure up. But maybe looking to God can.
